Course Objective

Use evidence, some of which may be derived from personal experience and field research, to demonstrate an awareness of a larger conversation and multiple viewpoints surrounding an issue.

I w        I would interpret this objective as understanding how you can use personal experience to develop an idea or theory, along with using other evidence. Personal experience can be a great tool to use when conducting research. Informing the reader of your understanding of a topic can make the writing feel personal and connect the reader more to who you, the author, are as a person. This is a part of the class objectives, so we can understand and demonstrate how we, as writers, can implement our own understanding and form ideas, and how that can be used to change our writing. We also need to understand and know how to use evidence that we may find, develop, and write about different ideas.

When we use our own experiences in our writing, we can have a larger conversation about different topics and provide different viewpoints surrounding an issue. This can be a great skill to learn to improve writing and can help in a professional job setting by showing that you can take evidence and other means to develop a plan or theory, and show that you can have multiple points of reference when, for example, creating a plan for a home. Still, the homeowners want something changed in the plan, but have limitations due to different codes. Using both tools can help you plan and offer new solutions to fit both needs in design.

I w    I will learn to use problem-solving and communication skills to write about different viewpoints and ideas correctly. I think including a fact about the opposing side when writing a persuasion piece makes your writing more impactful and gives the reader another viewpoint. I will need to understand the best way to articulate my personal experiences into a writing piece and figure out if they work with what I am trying to say in my writing. I will then feel like I understand this course objective well.
